Contrary, Controversial, Conundrums for Casual Consideration
or...The REAL winner is....
Published on March 1, 2005 By Contrary Cal In Blogging
Yesterday I made some comments concerning Canada's participation
(or lack thereof), in the US Missile Defense Program. I don't take back
a word of it, but I would like to add one thing further....

Dear US friends...get the dang thing working and then maybe we'll
seriously consider it. Otherwise, stop your whining.

I did a bit of surfing through some blog sites yesterday before I made
my comments, and the general theme was a bunch of Americans
deriding Canada for insisting on maintaining SOVEREIGN air space.
Do you think the US is the only country in the world that has the right
to protect it's airspace. Don't be so bloody arrogant. Your friggin
program doesn't work - and probably won't in the foreseeable future -
so all your whining is Moot anyway. It's just another ploy to gain further
access into Canadian affairs. So Bugger off with ya. [Contrary Cal flips
the bird in a southwesterly direction]

Now, that's not to say that I don't admire the US for what they are TRYING
to do. I admire it greatly and agree that defense on a very large scale is
needed to protect the democratic way of life that we value so dearly!
(I'm not being facetious there - I really mean that). What I DO object to,
and what most Canadians object to, is the arrogant attitude on the part
of the US, thinking that they are the only saviours of the democratic world.

It doesn't matter that you may be RIGHT, and that a bit of arm twisting is
needed for western allies to wake up and say uncle sam...or that a bit of
condescention isn't somewhat warrented. Your arrogance is on the
other side of insufferable now. That's why no one in the world likes you
anymore. NO ONE likes an "I told you so". No one.

So change your snotty attitude US, and you might get a better reception.
Especially from Canadians - cause we still say 'please and thank you'.

Now, onward and upward .........

Today is March 1st....I wrote in my blog yesterday that I would announce
the winner of the "Winter in Canada Sucks! Contest"....and I always
keep my promises. Here's what I wrote in yesterdays blog:

"Sooo...The Winner of the Contest is....drumroll please..........
I'll let you all know tomorrow - March 1st. February isn't over yet.
Though the sun is shining brightly here...you just never know.
We COULD get one of those freaky "didn't see that coming"
snowstorms sometime before midnight tonight!"

THIS IS SOOOOO FREAKY! A storm system was moving into
our area Before midnight last night - But Sorry - the snowstorm
didn't start until the early morning hours of today (March 1).
So it doesn't count. I thought we were just supposed to get
some ice pellets and a bit of snow - not enough to classify
it as a snowstorm. But it is! Enviroment Canada issued a
blizzard warning early this morning for this area!
HA. Go figure! I definately didn't see THAT one coming.

Anyway...The Winner of the Contest is.......

I'll guess 2 snowstorms

We had a snowstorm on Feb. 4th and Feb. 10th
On Feb 25 there was a weak attempt at a snowstorm but it
failed miserably with a measly 2 - 5 cm of snow, and of
course todays snowstorm which doesn't count because
although it technically started moving into the area on
Feb. 28, it didn't really hit until the wee hours of March 1st.

So ..... TWO snowstorms it is. And this is the really Odd
thing...Jimmers guessed right AND...he was the only one
who "officially" guessed, by posting his guess in the blog
comments section, as instructed to do.

Sorry Lynn...Sorry Ruth...Sorry Jenn...Sorry Tanya...
Too bad for your luck Andrew and Tim...Can't do anything
for you Dave...You didn't bother to post your comments on
my blog, thus boosting my blog ratings so.........
"Too bad, So sad, ya shoulda used Glad".
I'm LMBO (laughing my butt off) because almost all of
these friends and family members guessed TWO!!!!
Heh Heh Heh

By The Way....This was NOT fixed...honest. Go look
for yourself if you don't believe me! ROTFL!!!!!!!

Oh Yeah...the Prize...well Jimmers I have a couple of
ideas. If you liked my ideas on the 11th and 12th, then
perhaps I could come up with something along those
lines?

The rest of You can just guess what I'm talking about. Heh.

Well my beautiful bloggy fans (All two of you), have a wonderful
blizzard day. I'll see you here again sometime in the next week
or two! [evil laughter ensues]

Bye for now ya bunch of frozen popsicles.

Contrary Cal

P.S. Can never forget the Jazz Band Links...hee hee hee
Jenn laughs at me...but like I said before...Ya never know!

From the outset of his administration, President Bush insisted the United States develop a missile defense system. Neither the huge cost nor treaty complications would deter Bush from developing this system. The type of missile defense system being developed by the Bush administration employs sophisticated radar and computer systems in an attempt to destroy an incoming missile with an intercept missile launched from within the United States.

This system has several fatal flaws. First is the issue of reliability. During the first series of tests almost half of the time it failed to destroy the incoming missile. The estimated cost to deploy the system is over $100 billion dollars that does not include the ongoing cost to operate the system when it is operational. All of this however does not address the most important shortcoming of the Bush missile defense system, which is the lack of benefit from the system. There are almost no rogue states that have the capability of launching a nuclear weapon at the United States. In addition should a rogue state obtain a missile and nuclear warhead capable of attacking our nation, the second it lifted from its launch pad the rogue state would be history? Any and every tyrant that would think of using such a weapon against the most powerful nation on earth would be committing suicide. Therefore we are building a weapon system that will provide almost no real protection to the United States since the likelihood of fending off an attack by a rogue state is almost nonexistent. The Bush administration admits its missile defense system is not designed to destroy large numbers of missiles, and therefore does nothing to defend us against Russia or China.

The real danger from nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction is from terrorist groups bringing them into this country on planes or in shipping containers. More than two years after 9/11 we are still not inspecting shipping containers or cargo planes coming in to our nation. We seem to be able to find $100 billion dollars to build a nearly useless missile defense system but we don’t have the money to provide the manpower to inspect what comes in to our country.

If we are looking to develop a space-based weapon system, we need to concentrate on the high-energy laser systems not the bullet-to-bullet type anti missile systems being developed by Bush. Laser systems have the capability of attacking targets in the air, on the ground and on the water. In addition, they have the ability to be fired multiple times should the initial use fail to destroy the target. The system that Bush is spending $100 billion on is a one-shot deal. If that intercept missile fails to hit the enemy missile, we have no effective defense. Also, its use is limited to other missiles.

Happy Blizzard Day It's snowing here too, imagine that
on Mar 05, 2005
- It snowed here going on 3 days Danny... Yuppers...that was quite enough for me, thank you very much!
Now....what's all this stuff about the US Missile Defense System by colgene?
What - does he agree with me....or does he just disagree with Bush...Hmmmmm
Guess I'll have to take his comments under consideration!!!
